Queen were possibly too busy dodging the fallout from deciding to play Sun City at the time.
I think We Are The World was written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, not Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson as I think the thread poster wrote. The question is why wasn't Queen involved in 'Do They.', but it's been discussed on this forum before. So I don't see why Freddie should have been involved in 'We Are The World'. Well, I think 'We Are The World' was a song sang by American artists and 'Do They Know It's Christmas Time' by Brits. Why they were not invited is everybody's guess but they were definitely not on tour at the time. Queen were not invited to be part of the English song 'Do They Know It's Christmas.' which was recorded only a few weeks after Queen broke the UN boycott and performed in South Africa. 'We Are The World' was the American contribution.
Hasn't Brian written about it in his Soapbox a couple of days ago? It surly is sad, but as far as I remember they were busy in a different vorner of the world during the recordings for that song. so why not Freddie? I think this topic is old-school but i always wondered about that. Why Freddie didn't sing on 'We are the world' ? Smartieįreddie an Michael who co-wrote this sing were friends, Bob Geldof who organized Live Aid was also involved.
